I bought my 2000 Aero manual 3 years ago (76k miles). I love it, it is the best and safest car I have ever driven. Initially I was looking for a 9-3 HOT, but decided to go with the 9-5 Aero, more room for the kids. I had a 1993 9000 CSE (none-Turbo), the hatch is a real advantage, there is nothing better than hatch, you can fit almost anything in the back, I miss that function a lot.
If you do not need the extra room inside stay with your 9-3 or get the 2002 Aero if you like more power. The 2000 automatic had only 200hp because of the transmission, on the 2002 I believe the automatic and manual are the same HP.
