From a certain late 2001 VIN the bolts are better and torqued to specs.
I have taken some heads off on those later 4 cyl engines and the feel when breaking loose the head bolts are back to good ol fashion feel with a crack sound when they come loose, not as the 97-01 mushy loose feel from the bad/loose headbolts.
They still develope a small oil leak though from the back of cylinder head/timing cover but that is nothing a bolt retorque would fix anyway. It just a weak design of the head gasket.
