There is a guy i found on brickboard.com that does Volvo ABS units. Sorry I don't remember his name or know if he does SAAB units. I had a Volvo 850 unit done by him for somewhere around $150 including shipping to CA and back. I am a mid-level DIYer as well and found the Volvo unit moderately easy to take out, once I purchased the right socket. With the 850, when the unit failed you still had brakes but just not ABS. With the unit removed, you still had brakes but (obviously) no ABS and the odomoter was not functional either. I realize none of this may apply to the 9-5, but you might look up the Volvo guy to see if he does SAABs too.
