Stripped upper engine mounts . . .ugh! (long)

The good news is the new idler and serp belt went in rather well. The bad news is the two upper engine mount bolt holes closest to the firewall are stripped. One came out real easy and both had remnants of metal on the threads. Neither would hold upon reassembly.
A few questions: Although I drove the car safely home from where it died due to the shredded belt, does anyone have an idea (other than a gut "don't drive it") how drivable the car is with the two "front" bolts and the central nut holding the mount in place. (FWIW the engine did not move when I lowered the jack which supported it during the belt job).
Anybody ever face this problem? Is tapping the hole and getting some new bolts my only reasonable option without removing the mouting bracket which looks pretty difficult (if not impossible)to remove in place?
