To add to the other posts, just wanted to share my install for those of you looking for a "clean" install.
Using method 2 on the site "http://www.sethevans.com/auxinput.html":
I mounted my 3.5mm female jack and toggle switch inside the arm rest/cup holder compartment to the right of the removeable cup holder. I then ran the wires under and alongside the shifter/ignition trim next to the passenger seat up into the area behind the AC Control and spliced them into the OEM telephone wiring harness. Very clean and convenient.
You can plug it in, activate the "telephone" option (using the toggle switch), and even leave the ipod in the compartment. For a power supply, I tapped into the rear cig lighter wiring and spliced an extra female lighter adapter for my monster charger. I then ran the monster charger coiled cable into the compartment through the opening that's under the rubber matting. Just a reminder that you have to turn the toggle switch off when you want to use the other stereo options or exit the vehicle or the "telephone" will remain on. You'll see it in the display.
It was much easier than I thought using components from Radio Shack.
You have to turn up the volume a bit higher than normal, but it still literally give me the same sound as my CD player does. I tested it using the same songs.
To get more juice from your factory HK system, with the stereo head unit turned off, press the WB button and the Volume/on/off button at the same time. It should display "Start Up Volume 9". You can then turn it up up to 30, but it's NOT recommended to turn it up past 25. Wait about 10 seconds then turn the radio back off using the volume/on/off button. You can test that it took the adjustment by repeating pressing the WB and Vol button again. It should display the last numerical value you turned it up to. Be careful not to go too high as it could blow your speakers!
Hope this helps...
