I've heard of the clip on the wastegate coming off. Does that give you no boost or no boost control - ie no power or melted pistons? Search the forum you'll find out.
Also on the list of suspects aside from those mentioned by others - blocked air filter, faulty bypass valve or the vacuum control thereof. It just sounds like it's not getting the air blown in there one way or the other, they should have power equivalent or better than any other example of the model considering it's a manual. The only manual I've driven was an 2001 aero and it had a much more lively feel compared to my auto even though the outputs are similar.
