Hey guys. Got one for you. 99 9-5 SE V6.
Been running great up to date on service etc.. Driving home from a day trip the car had been running for approx 4 hours with a few stops here and there. Again, running great. Stopped for lunch parked the car for an hour or so then went to start it and it sounded like a train. Started fine but loud as hell. "wrapping" from the top of the engine on the passengers side. Similar to a loud "Tick" which increased in speed as accelerator is pressed. Exhaust seems to be louder too but could be my imagination.
Shut it off and restarted it a few times and got the same result. Carefully drove it around the parking lot and notice no power loss of ill effects. Parked it and had it towed to a garage. There are no Indis or Saab dealers any where near the break down site so after a bit of research I found a 5 man opperation with great reviews.
After less than an hour he tells me the engine is gone. First thought is a blown head gasket. I told him I had drove it since the problem started and experianced no over heating, power-loss ect... got him to dig deeper. He is now telling me he thinks the engine is fine and is 99% sure it is a bad valve. He says I have full compression etc. He is going to take the engine head off and see what is up.
That is where I am at now. Any advice on what questions to ask? What to look out for? Ideas of what it could be? He quoted me $250 for the diag including taking the head apart which seems fair.
Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance
Jim M
