I noticed the black stuff too- Posted by adl6009 [Email] (#2526) [Profile/Gallery] (more from adl6009) on Sat, 29 Jul 2006 17:27:44 In Reply to: Does HP depend on a spark plug?, dmz789aa, Sat, 29 Jul 2006 10:57:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I would imagine its carbon. It was deposited around the center electrode up inside where the insulator is. I don't remember seeing that on other cars but its been a long time since I've played with the plugs. The appearance of the rest of the plug was as I recall a plug should look. As far as the physics of a plug and horsepower is concerned, I believe it has to do with how quickly a plug will dissapate heat. A hotter plug holds the heat longer, a colder plug disapates heat faster. These characteristics could cause misfires or preigntion if it doesn't match the needs of the combustion chamber. But, I could be wrong.
