I've seen some posts on this item, and my 2000 9-5 died in W.VA., in the middle of nowhere.
Held hostage between a 350$ tow to the closest dealer [in pittsburgh], or a replacement of the Ignition Module under the recall [which saab says they will reimburse] by a local mechanic.....I chose to have a local replacement.
Now, at least the car starts, but an error refuses to clear and stay cleared. After the mechanic "clears" this error, the car drives fine, so long as i don't turn the key to off. If I turn the car off, the next start up will have the limp home enabled.
The local mechanic can't get the item cleared is "Pxxxx Enhanced DTC" -- he says his "code manual" says that it sometimes needs to be cleared when replacing the Ignition Module. [sorry, I don't have the 'xxxx' code...]
So...my questions to the folks, here....
1. Is there additional programming that is required when this module is replaced under the recall? Some of the posts allude to something more than the simple swap the mechanic made, as part of the process.
2. Can I now drive the car the 3 hours to the Pittsburgh dealer to get this things cleared, so the car drives normal, again, more permanently?
I dont have any aftermarket parts or programming, and to my knowledge, no software has been 'updated' by the Saab dealer in New Orleans, after my new purchase.
3. Should this car have [have had] a software upgrade to any of the programming, by Saab?
My thanks . . .
