Painting 01 Aero grill

Hello all,
I am taking my steel gray 01 aero to my indie to have the front end primed and painted to get rid of the spoiler rash and stone chips. I figured while I was at it I would get the chrome grill painted except for the saab wing. He said it would take some work because he would have to sand it down and prime it, he also said that the surface is not good to paint on and would chip off very easily. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with this to let me know if it has worked out good for them, the price is the same for the front end so its not like it will cost more just didn't want to do something that I will regret in a couple of months.
NYC Aero 2001, clear corner lights, k&n drop in filter, upgraded air intake
on another note I have not really noticed a big difference with the upgraded air intake, I'm thinking about a new exhaust now
