I just tried the ironing method today and it worked 100%. Took the radio out with the $4 Wal-mart DIN radio tools (worth the $4). Grabbed the SID from behind, pulled forward and it slid out. Not too much effort required. Yes there are tabs on the side but with just a little effort it slids right out. Took the entire unit apart with just a Torx T-10 tool and a small screw driver. My unit has a wide white ribbon between the display and the main board. I ironed the ribbon, iron on high, until I could feel it getting a little soft. I then let it cool without disturbing it. Then I put it back togeter and put it back in the car and it works 100%. Took all of about 15 minutes.
