Bought my first Saab ('00 2.3t Wagon) off EBay and went to pick it up in Houston last Friday. I'd had an outside inspector go over it for me prior to sale and all looked fine. My plan was to take a few days and drive it home to Oakland, CA.
475 miles into the trip, on a Saturday, it died in West Texas. The battery went and took the alternator with it. The first two mechanics I called (and I am not making this up) asked what model truck a Saab was; the mechanic I finally found had to order in the parts. As a result, I spent five days at a truck stop/motel in a tiny town in Texas, learning what price I might often pay for wanting a Saab.
Once the car was fixed I had to rocket home, since I was now way behind schedule. I did 1,500 miles in 1.5 days, and despite everything, I loved the car. I 6'1" (and female) and despite 12 hours behind the wheel one day, was completely comfortable. I was doing between 75-80 the whole way, with the air-conditioner going, and still got 30 mpg. I'm just sorry I couldn't keep driving once I got home!
There are still some flaws to work out, though -- a headlight bulb has burned out and, in my initial emergency, when I hit the hazard lights button it went right through the dashboard. I don't even want to think about what it will take to fix that.
