DIC failure oncce again

My 2002 9-5 Arc burnt out its DIC on the interstate on Sep 15th and left me in a very dangerous location on an uphill interstate exit ramp with no shoulder at 4.30pm in the pouring rain.
I got a recovery truck rescue, and my local garage diagnosed the DIC.
I had previously read about these failures on these boards, but did not buy a spare as I thought the 2002 Arc V6 was not susceptible as the recall didnt cover the V6 after 2001.
Anyway, having had the repair done (and now have the CEL on so suspect a burnt out Catalytic Converter too) i re-read these boards and discovered that my year and model is still suffering from these failures.
I called the garage and asked if they still had the old DIC units so i could check the serial number against the recall papers, but they have disposed of them now.
Has anyone successfully got a refund from Saab in a case like this - the work was done by an independent garage, i dont have the original units, and a dealer was not involved in the diagnosis?
I am going to take the car to a dealer to verify the Cat if the error code indicates it.
Many thanks for your coments
