I have read the replies, and if this is a 1999, you can remove the module and check the batteries in the module. Removal is easy and the car can drive / run fine while it is out. You will have to clear the service alarm message while it is out. On the 1999, you can take the module apart and remove the internal batteries (does take some desoldering), check and replace the batteries. This seemed to fix the issue that I had with a 1999. I have been told that after 1999 these are sealed and you can't repair. Don't know this for sure.
