We've had our '02 9-5 Linear (sedan, automatic) since new, pushing 110,000 miles right now. Except for the well documented SID and DIC, it's been trouble free. Even though it is a very agile car, it is without a doubt the most comfortable, pleasurable long-distance highway car I have ever owned (in 30+ years of owning cars). Some might find the Linear underpowered, but we've had no complaints as it passes in a flash and easily hits 80 by the end of most highway entrance ramps.
Our '02 9-3HOT (stick shift) we purchased CPO about 18 months ago. It has 45,000 miles on it and has, so far, also been trouble free. The 3 is faster and more fun to drive; it also gets a little better mileage. And I love the hatch, into which I have stuffed all manner of things. We've done a couple of 500+ mile drives in the 3; compared to most of my previous cars, it is great for cruising, but it's nothing like the 5 for long-distance. We use the 3 a lot for shorter trips when only one or two are traveling, but when we're all-day cruising or taking extra passengers, we opt for the 5 every time.
