I've had the steering column joint lubed once already and now it's being done again this Wedsnesday. The first time it did tighten things up but it lasted less than a year. Now it feels quite loose, especially on right hand turns and on rough roads. 9-5 Aero has 48K miles on it.
The dealer says they use synthetic lube for this. I asked if they could use something thicker, like axle grease, which would last longer and not dry out. Dealer says they can't do this.
My question is: why not? Would it create a safety hazard or some other problem to pack the slip joint on the column with a thick heavy grease that would last longer and not dry out?
I love this car, but the loose, clunky steering is bugging me. It feels cheap and worn out when the rest of the car is perfect.
