As owner of an '02 Aero wagon, this raises what have become nagging questions on both the life expectancy of suspension components and declining quality of their performance up to that moment when they absolutely require replacement. In addition to obvious concerns about safety and fun, there is also the question of cost. In 2000, I upgraded a '99 9-5 suspension (part-for-part) to the Aero specification and more recently I put a sport suspension in my wife's 4.2 A6. In both cases, parts and labor each cost one red-hot, flaming ton of money; amounts which would give anyone pause in the context of a family car of this age.
My wagon has almost 70,000 (largely interstate and religiously maintained) miles on it. Although there are no apparent problems at this moment, I wonder how long it will be before there are, what they are likely to cost and whether (and to what extent) I ought to be "pro-active". If it helps to inform anyone's thinking on this, I get about 30K out of a set of brake rotors and about the same from the Michelin Pilots Saab sold with the car.
Many thanks to any and all who have thoughts on the matter.
