My "Rube Goldberg" device for CPS changing..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 5 Nov 2006 06:52:35 In Reply to: CPS replacement help, rdb, Sat, 4 Nov 2006 20:18:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab changes fastener styles as often as some folks change socks, so maybe my experience with my 2000 lpt won't help, but here it goes....
The screw securing the CPS and its heat shield on my car had a Torx head, the same size as the valve cover screws. I securely taped a Torx bit into a 1/4-inch six point socket using electricians tape. The socket was attached to a 1/4 to 3/8 inch adapter, this was attached to a 3/8 drive flex fitting, that was attached to a 12-inch long extension.
I only needed the ratchet for the initial breaking loose, and final tightening. Otherwise I just gripped the extension and turned that to extract/replace the screw.
I did this job from above since my car wouldn't start to drive it up a set of ramps. Others have said it is a little easier from below, in which case the 12-inch extension may not be necessary.
