I dont know about what year is the best value, but I believe that 2003 was the best year of the 9-5. They added/changed a few things from 2002 to 2003, including the sentronic automatic, redesigned exterior mirrors, available auto dimming exterior mirrors, and I remember that xenon headlamps and the parking sensors were less common in 2002 than in 2003. Starting in 2004 they did some cost cutting with the interior. They removed the side pillar pockets, used more vinyl in the interior in place of leather, dropped rear seat heating, the ACC filter cover is bare plastic instead being carpeted, the dash top was changed to black instead of gray (I prefer the gray), I believe the WB feature was dropped, etc. The only thing I like better about the 2004 over the 2003 are the aero front and rear bumper design, as well as the polished interior door handles. As for 2005, the only up was the available nav system. Then for 2006, there are too many changes to list!
