I had my first collision in 15yrs of driving last night. I hit a sizeable deer just north of Boston in Lynnfield on Rte-1. (The deer was as long as the width of the front of the car.) Visibility was good and I was going 50mph, but the deer literally came out of nowhere, jumped the guard-rail and over to my lane, and simply froze in front of me. I had no time to react and hit the deer at speed. All I felt was a thud in the front. and the deer was tossed up and over my car and landed on the side of the road. The poor thing was still alive and the State Police had put it away.
The damage to the front of the car was extensive. It looked like the radiator was smashed, leaking all the coolant out; all the front lights were broken as was the front grille; the hood badly disfigured and almost got pushed back into the windshield. I suspect that the turbo unit is damaged, too. In other words, it was a significant impact. Surprisingly, I felt nothing, the car didn't try to veer off an inch, I didn't loose control and stayed on my lane until it was safe to pull the over to the side. I guess the front of the car absorbed all the collision and air bag never deflated!
Now it is time to deal with insurance adjuster. Any suggestion how to handle them? Body shops that you may know of around Boston ..
