I have a 99 9-5SW, similar situation a while back - changed the CPS and it went away. Not expensive, possibly DIY.
The CPS tells the control module where everything is, and thus will not engage the sparking systme until the position of the cylinder heads is correct. If there is no burnt smell , it likely isnt the DI cassette.
