engine hours instead of miles.... I would say go 5k on changes and maybe 1 year. Not that I think more than a year would be bad but no reason to risk it over 20 buck oil change. BTW I still use regular oil and really change b/w 5-7k. Closer to 5 on the saab and 7 on our 4runner since the saab has a turbo. Both engines are known to be sludgey but we are both over 150k. I think that you more likely to rust out you exhaust from the short trips then anything else. Oh if your short trips are all in city you might drop down to 3k oil changes too. Highway miles are great lots of miles per hour of engine use. In town you sit at idle or low speeds so the engine hours are alot higher and normal 5k oil changes are not what you should be following..... Need to change for engine hours instead of miles.
