I would argue the easy DIY job. You might be better going to indy on that. Reason is the tools needed are somewhat special. 32mm socket and reall good breaker bar or impact gun. Also if you is stuck in the spline like mine was you will need a puller to push the shaft out of the hub. Then after it is out you can put a new boot on. So you have the cost of aleast 50 in tools and will need to have torce wrench for I think it was like 170flbs to retighten the nut.
So if you have tools and a good place to work it is worth it, if not a shop might be the answer. Also I am not sure if they make a good split boot that can be put on with out removing the drive axle. The car is saft to drive but the longer it goes with out the boot the more grease is lost and more dirt that gets in the joint to cause wear. I drive a old rabbit for years like that and never fixed it, drove a jetta months like that and the cv joint went bad. hat car eats the cv joints.. I think that i have put like 3 in. Car is at about 300k so that is about every 75k althought the first one was over 150k so I think that the pep boys cv joint stink.
