I have been complaining to myself lately that my stereo sounds like crap. The base rattles like hell. I have the HK Prestige system that's supposed to be awesome and I have not been impressed with it since I got the car about a year ago. Finally get some time to look at the woofers today. The driver side speaker sounded aweful and I tried banging all around it to see if there was a rattle in the rear shelf because I thought it was one of those stupid baby seat latch covers. I pop the little tab in (broke it actually, now it's lost forever) and pried the speaker grille off. (Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to get that darned grill off? I only got one side of the clips undone just enough to peer inside.) Then I cranked up the base. Sure enough the speaker was blown: all ripped up around the edges. I found a used speaker from a salvage car on ebay for $70, but that seems like a lot. Are there any after market options that might even be better than the HKs? Thanks.
