In the course of one day, my base 1999 2.3 lpt went from completely driveable to stalling at every stop sign (and quite literally stalling 10 feet from the repair garage). The DIC was fried.

Halfway on my trip to work this morning with the cruise control on, I felt the engine surge, slow and "shudder" all within seconds. This was very distinct, and I never felt this sensation coming from the car before. It subsequently happened two more times in the next 15 minutes of driving. On the way home, it was more of the same, but happening with greater frequency. As a regular reader of this board, I had only one thought: "It's gotta be the DIC." Called my indy Saab shop (Atomic Auto Repair, Portland-- big shout out to Travis for saving my bacon) when I got home at 5:45-- 15 minutes before he closed; he said come on down.

The 10 minute drive to the shop was agony-- this engine was very quickly dying, stalling out 4 seperate times at low revs. At the shop, a quick scan with the OBD code reader and one new DIC later (and some new plugs for good measure), the car ran flawlessly.

So... not much to add to everyone else's story of failed DIC's other than they do not all go out spectacularly in a puff of smoke, but in my case, one 35-mile day where it progressively got worse. I'm very lucky for the part to last as long as it did, and luckier still that I was close enough to have it repaired by someone in the know.

As an aside, Travis, the shop's owner looked at my VIN and told me that my car was _probably_ the 204th 9-5 ever built (it was built in 1998 as a 1999 model)-- which makes the DIC's longevity even more astounding.
