Ive got an Asus MyPal PDA with Destinator Navigation software. You can install other software instead if you like but it comes with Destinator. I think its great and have used it all over the place. I like the way you can cut out map sections and load them in to the SD card - it updates much quicker with a small map section and associated favorites and POI's etc.
As the others do, I place mine on the lower left hand windscreen with the sucker thing just above the registration disc. It is right in my field of vision and i can scroll up to see whats coming in the road - great for overtaking / driving in complicated junctions etc. the power lead comes from the lighter in the low center of the dash, hooks over the wiper stalk, down under the steering column and up the otherside hooked behind the column height adjuster which keeps it nice and tight and the power cable end just reaches the unit nicely.
Ive used this setup in many rental cars too and it seems to fit most.
I saw one guy on here puts his in the cup holder on the dash, which is a good place if you dont want to be seen using a GPS - in a dodgy area of town for example - but i havent tried that yet.
