Whenever you post on here it's really helpful if you tell us which engine you have, and how many miles are on it. (By the way, $2,000 is an awesome price for any 9-5, especially at a dealer). If it's a V6, the smoke may just be normal. Saab had tons of problems with the V6 stalling when the engine was cold, so they had to make it run really rich until it warmed up some. This is why you would get lots of smoke that smells like fuel. Turbo failure is usually associated with blue smoke that smells of oil right when you start the car. Sometimes you can get grey/white smoke with turbo failure. Have someone follow behind you and in the Saab do some hard acceleration then let off the gas quickly. Tell the person behind you to watch for any kind of smoke coming from the exhaust. A head gasket would make the car smoke all the time and the smoke would smell kind of sweet. You would also be able to see oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. So if you do an oil change let the oil you take out sit over night. The oil and coolant should separate from each other. I wonder if the dealer did an oil change to hide something... If it's the 4 cylinder you may want to take off the camshaft cover and take a look for sludge. Check out the link below. And the picture below is a BMW engine but you're pretty much looking for the same thing. Good luck and please post back with updates.
