common signs of a bad turbo:
- blue smoke at start up, indicates that the turbo seals are starting to wear.
- blue smoke at acceleration, indicates seals getting worse
- whining/rattling indicates that the bearing is failing/failed.
unfortunately these things can also be indicators of other bad and expensive things. so in general, blue smoke is going to be an expensive repair. w
on the bright side: the Aeros seems to have much more reliable turbos than the other 9-5s.
check:
- SID - for missing pixels. this is a $100 fix at most. however the dealer will charge ~$500 and you can use that number when negotiating the price of the car
- ACC - run diags (press AUTO+OFF) and it will display error codes on the ACC panel. dealer costs to fix any ACC problem is generally ~$1200 but in almost every case it is an easy and inexpensive repair. again this is a negotiating tool.
- check that the IDM was replaced under warranty
- check for regular maintenance, esp oil changes.
- check for sludge
- check shocks/brakes depending on the mileage.
- check the hoses and bypass valve for leaks/ softness.
- check that PCV update #6 was preformed.
- depending on year/VIN check that headbolts were replaced
since you are fan of 900 & 9000 I think you will realy appreciate the 9-5.
