Your site saved my life when I had my '93 9k Aero....

I now have an '01 (lpt wagon). Not aware of any ECU issues.

If you have a 9k Aero you might want to go to an '02 or newer 9-5 Aero just to get the seats. The standard 9-5 seats are very disappointing when compared to the 9k Aero seats but the '02 and newer Aero gets a nice sport seat. Also '02 gets the 5 speed automatic but sounds like you want standard. Drive an auto Aero before you get too set on that though...

I like to tell people that the whole interior in a 9-5 is cheaper than just the front seats in a 9k Aero...

Just off the top of my head, and you'll find lots more here:

any LPT 9-5:
- relatively short lived GT17 turbo - some people upgrade to TD04 when it dies.
- bad headbolts need replace/retorque.
- PCV system needs $50 DIY upgrade.
- SID display dies but can be repaired DIY free or by shop for about $100.
- engine sludge can be a problem if 5k synthetic oil changes weren't done religiously.
- weak rear shocks.
- ABS computer can die. Saab wants $2500 for a fix but you can install rebuilt unit for $250.
- ACC "code 08" - control parts inside heater box can break, Saab wants $2000 to replace heater box, you can fix for free-$250 depending what's wrong.
- fuel pump is good for 80k miles or so. $100 DIY replacement.
- DI Cassette is subject to recall. They typically die suddenly rather than give you lots of warning like 9k. New ones seem better.

On the plus side, it doesn't take 10 hours to replace the blower motor...

If I had to do it over I'd find a really nice '02 Aero.

Les
