Yes, it could be a precursor to a failing IDM.
I just replaced a TK 3.6 on a 2003 for those two codes and a third code indicating a failing CMP sensor.
8K miles ago it was only those two codes you mention but at that time I did the 60K service with new plugs so I only reset the codes thinking the plugs would take care of it.
But now it was back and with the third code (P-0340) present too.
I first reset the codes and ran several IDM tests with the scan tool and drove the car without any codes coming back or that the old one failed the IDM test, so it was with the customers agreement that we replaced the IDM and I have not heard from him yet even though it hasn't been that long.
