Had that problem last spring in my '99 9-5 and the dealer quoted me the $1800 fix, explaining that the heat box was one of the first things that go on and, therefore, there's a big disassembly/reassembly involved. I said, here in New England that isn't an $1800 problem, and I'll just close the vent on my side until cool weather returns. So last summer the system worked intermittently with gradual improvement. So far this season, all is aok. IMHO benign neglect will sometimes suffice as a Saab repair strategy -- IF it's not an essential running system. Besides, I'll eventually need the $1,800 for my little turbo leak.
