Hi, I have a 2001 Viggen with 165K. And as you know similar engine to 9-5 Aero. For last 2 weeks , hard time starting on 1st start of day- morning or afternoon. Did not seem temp dependent - 40-60 deg or so but would start first try every time all day after the initial problem. Problem was with the first start of day. It would take several cranks, then start and drive with no problems. Yesterday check engine light came on- but far from home and drove 75 miles or so with no problem. But 5 miles from home while accelerating from rest, I messed up and over revved and the rev limiter kicked in. Immediately the check engine light came on and car was misfiring, low power. POwer got progressively worse and Car died 1 mile from home.
Car cranks over fine- but does not even attempt to start.
Car has had recent new DIC, plugs. And drove fast as expected prior to this.
Swapped DIC from wife's 03 9-5 aero-no change.
Yes there's gas in the caaaar
Checked all fuses- all OK . Verified the following: have new battery- OK and voltage OK, I have spark at each cylinder, can hear fuel pump running and works, have voltage to each injector. Measured 40 PSI fuel pressure at schrader valve at fuel rail. Did not measure fuel volume - but seemed OK.
My Multi-meter is dead. So did not check resistance of CPS- which was my main suspect. Swapped out CPS with another CPS which was good in Dec 06- but can't verify it still is. But no change. And this is still one of my main suspects.
Next I am going to check ELCD/ Purge sensor and can swap out with good one from 03 9-5 Aero. But I don't think this is it.
In summary, check engine already light on, revved the hell out of Viggen in first gear ( yes my bad). As soon as rev limiter kicked in- instant misfiring, no power. Drove 5 miles to safety and car died. Will not start.
My local NAPA dealer will get their loaner OBD II code reader returned tomorrow, so I can borrow. Hopefully that will tell me something.
Please help
thank you
Glen
