Fuel Pump RPM Appears to Significantly Change Posted by NCSaab [Email] (#973) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCSaab) on Fri, 1 Jun 2007 15:30:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Past post have described an intermittent engine 'stutter' issue I have been having for over 12 months now. I went ahead and connected a battery operated Fluke Scope/Meter with a current clamp on it today to check the health of the pump.
With the engine running, but car sitting still, the trace looks good - no dropouts due to worn brushes, etc.. HOWEVER, while driving the frequency of the current ripple changes dramatically, at times to 1/8 the 'normal' frequency. When this happened, the engine did it's 'stutter' thing. Since the frequency is directly proportional to the pump speed, my initial thinking is that this is not normal. I can understand the speed varying slightly, but not to this degree.
Any input as to how normal this is or what might be at issue would be greatly appreciated. TIA
