Sudden rough idle, A/C related I think Posted by Saabpilot [Email] (#134) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Saabpilot) on Thu, 28 Jun 2007 12:13:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My still "new to me" 2003 9-5 Aero has developed an intermittent "hunting" at idle. Car has 92k on the clock and was purchased with 79k. Before I run it to my Saab indy, does anyone have any ideas on simple things I can check?
It only seems to hunt when the air conditioning is on, which has been nearly all the time lately. It is getting worse. There are no indications of a loose belt such as a squeal, but I haven't had time to physically check the belt tension yet. When it begins to idle erratically and "hunt" if I push the "ECON" button to turn off the A/C compressor, it pretty much idles normally. If not a belt, could this indicate a problem with the compressor itself?
Much to the disagreement of many on this board, I purchased a Saab-sponsored 3rd party extended warranty with the car, so if this is a major repair, it is covered with only a $50 deductible...that's the good news. But I'd still like to troubleshoot it myself if I can in order to avoid a potential multi-day visit to my mechanic. Thanks for any advice.
