Oil change schedule in 2006 Saab 95

The dealer is recommending that I change my oil at around 7500 mile interval on an 2006 9-5. Do others on this board agree with that?
I'd feel more comfortable changing the oil at 6000 even with synthetic.
Also, when I looked under the car, it looks like I need to take off some kind of plate to change the oil. Is that where the oil plug and filter is located? It is toward the passenger side of the car.
