My car shut down twice in the past couple of months as well. The last one happened couple of weeks ago. Ever since then I don't let my wife drive this car due to safety reasons. It is definitely not due to hitting the ignition key just like it was not due to bad gas cap when I had to replace my gas tank due to EVAP leak. My car may be different due to being one of the earlier '99 models so anything can happen.
The first time it happened was while I was driving kinda fast while turning on a local street and my car seemed to hit a small bump and the power shut down.
The second time it happened was while driving on a freeway and it was 100 degrees and I had to turn on my AC and this really slows my car. All of a sudden I realized that the steering wheel was very hard to turn and when I saw the guage all the lights were on and no response to gas pedal. I had to turn on emergency light to warn others, shifted to neutral while rolling around 30 mph and started drving again. I almost had a heartattack for the second time.
One of those SAAB quirks or maybe not. My friend's mercedez shut down as well while driving down a freeway ramp, retarted and drove like normal. It is a well-known fact that European cars historically have electrical glitches to this day so drive mindfully and carefully.
