SAAB 9-5 Aero 2002: time for change of chains?

Hi there! Just acquired a 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero with the mileage of 110k km (ca 70k miles). At the inspection at the SAAB dealers, I was told that the chains need to be replaced (which as you may know is pretty costly). It would seem to me that 110k km is just too early for the chains to be replaced. Can this be true? It appears that the previous owner has been servicing the car with the intervals of ca 20k km (ca 12k miles). Is this probably the reason, as the normal interval should be twice as less?
