Direct Ignition failure? Posted by Greg Bender [Email] (#1027) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Greg Bender) on Thu, 19 Jul 2007 14:40:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all,
Background: I've got a 2000 Saab 9-5 SE (6 cylinder) with 91,000+ Miles.
My tale of woe: I was driving last night and the car began to vibrate badly...check engine light came on. I stopped at the local auto parts store and had them read the codes: P0304 (cylinder 4 misfire) and P1304 (unknown to me). So I limped on home and pulled out both Direct Ignition Cassettes. The outside of the middle plastic post was cracked on both cassettes (the long part that reaches down to make contact with the spark plug). I also noticed engine oil in both of the middle spark plug holes.
Question 1: Is it safe to assume that I should replace both Direct Ignition Cassettes? Or, should I have the cassettes tested (by a local dealer, I assume)? I'm leaning toward replacing both cassettes.
Question 2: My guess is that the valve cover gaskets should also be replaced. It looks as though the intake manifold will need to be removed. Is this the case? If so, should I also plan on replacing the intake manifold gaskets at the same time...or will that not be disturbed.
Thanks for any advice you can provide!
Regards,
Greg Bender
