...good question, I haven't tried.
Now just back from putting a hundred miles or so on it it's definitely tied in to the brakes. It immediately stops when I press the brake pedal, and starts again when I'm off it.
Further the sound is much like if you filled a balloon with air and let it out slowly by stretching the opening, you know it makes that high pitched sound you can modulate. Then when I shut the car off it kind of trails away after the ignition's off.
Still, tho, no affect to the car's performance, nor errors displayed.
