Most of all I do not like my '99 9-5 (4 cylinder). The prime reason is its unreliability. Small and sometimes large things seem to go wrong all the time (e.g. lights, computers, water pump, windshields, fog lamp brackets, spark plugs, trunk latches in addition to regular maintenance) and I spend alot of time going back and forth to the dealer (round trip of 40+ miles).
Design things that I think could be improved.
1. Climate control system that has a mind of its own and no one including the dealer knows how to operate. The manual is flat out wrong. For example there seems to be no way to get fresh air into the car without either heating or cooling it.
2. Road noise. Very noisy is you open the windows at all (problem with above) and more noise than there should be with all the windows closed.
3. Poor rear visability. Especially so with headrest up in back.
4. Computer system on dash is virtually useless except for outside temperature reading, date and time. ( A simple clock could easily handle the last two.) Most all the other readings are not accurate.
5. Lack of storage space in cabin.
6. Brake dust!!!!
7. Terrible lamp live.
8. Overly expensive tires to match suspension.
9. Counterintuitive sound system. (However, I'm getting used to it.) Manual not helpful here also. Trial and error does work.
Good things:
1. Great cruise control; very smooth and steady.
2. Good mileage (29+ mph overall for 56K so far.)
3. Good headroom (without sunroof).
4. Comfortable drivers seat. (Simple cloth - non heated).
5. Easy to find in parking lot - usually only Saab
