mine is a 2000 aero with 110,000 miles and just went to a mechanic and a dealer for an oil leak,
what i have learned is this .........
when you have this type of oil leak you better do all the seals /gaskets ata cost of $ 2,500.
the reason is that the front plate does not use a gasket but rather a cement . cement has been used in lotus and other ,but they did not use synthetic oil.
if you replace the head gasket and then the oil leak restarts or you get a new one, here you go again. and i was told that the engine has to come out anyhow.this is what i was told .............and so it is better to reseal the entire engine at that time.
my engine began leaking oil within 4 weeks os switching to full synthetic oil. it appears that there are some chemicals here that degrade the cement used to seal the front plate ?????
and the word is out that it may be the synt.oil.........this is what i learned at the saab dealer and at an independent saab only mech.
in my case ,i had him do an isnpection and he found a cracked engine mount also. so, he did the oil sender which was starting to leak also and did this and also retightened the some of the head gasket nuts........but he noticed that the front was leaking some oil also.and thus the recommendation to do it all.
i called other dealers and was told the same ......
so, i am going to acura next week to possibly trade in my saab on an RL.
i am also posting a question separately on the transmission which is another 5 gs , but i have no problems as yet.
