I posted earlier this week on minimal heat in the cabin from the AC system. The self-diagnostic comes up as a "0", no codes (and therefore not the dreaded code 8). The coolant level is fine, and there are no leaks. After the engine starts, the gauge moves to the middle, suggesting that the thermostat is working - the upper hose is hot, and feels full. It took about 10 minutes at idle to reach operating temp, which seems a bit long (but I have been in Toronto with temps in the upper thirties for a while, so I could have a faulty recollection).

If I start the car, and place the AC on HI settings for both zones, I get heat; if I change to 22 C, it cools nicely; if I then go back to HI on both zones, it blows cool air only. Even after I turn it off, it will not produce heat in either zone when returned to HI, once it has been at 22 C.

I have been able to duplicate this, two days in a row - outside temperature is about 20 to 23 C here in PEI.

Previous suggestions from tonystarks and darrell pointed to either the thermostat, or the coolant level. I have a spare thermostat, and could get it put in locally. If it is the current one, it must be sticking in partially open position in order to cause my symptoms.

Are there any other diagnostic tests I can do, to narrow this down before I start a long trip back through the Appalachians... it may get cool in the mountains, and my wife will likely have to wear socks in her sandals.

Could it be a control module or a cabin temperature sensor that is giving incorrect feedback?
