The original Xenons are XENARC D1S bulbs by Osram (Germany) with color temperature of 4,100° Kelvin which is natural sunlight at noon. The D1S is a type of bulb, not the color and is a bulb where the ballast is attached to the bulb as one unit (the metal box at the base of the bulb). Unforunately this design is more expensive, as you have to replace both when the light burns out.
All xenons change color as they age and also become dimmer. If your xenons start looking pinkish and flicker, it's a sign that they are at the end of life.
There are bulbs on eBay claiming highr color temperatures even 8,000° Kelvin, and look blue or purple. Higher color does not mean more visible light! The eye is most sensitive to the 4,000° - 5,000° Kelvin and the higher temperatures actually produce less visibility.
You can use any D1S brand, but beware that if the two bulbs are from different brands and ages they may appear different. Quality wise I would stay with the major brands, Philips, Osram, Sylvania, GE. The D1S is complicated and it's easy to cut corners and make cheaper, lower quality bulbs. A good D1S bulb should give about 3000 hours of use that may translate to 3-5 years.
