Went for a little road trip yesterday, and one of my worst fears came true...a blown transmission. Of course it didn't blow until I was almost three hours away from my local indie shop, so I got a nice $325 tow bill right off the bat. I am not going to know anything until Monday when the shop opens, but I was hoping to get an idea of what I am in for. Hopefull someone can give me some info.
2000 9-5 2.3lpt Auto with 124,000 miles.
1.) What kind of repair cost will I be looking at to have the tranny rebuilt or replaced?
2.) Is it an option to look at changing to a manual transmission, or does this cost even more than getting a re-built auto? (I would love to have a manual).
3.) In my area, with a working transmission, my 9-5 would probably fetch around $3,800 for a trade-in value, and maybe $5,800 if I sold myself. Would it make sense to see if the indie would make me an offer to puchase the car from me, and use the cash towards another vehicle?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ken
