The difference between 6 and 12 only comes into play when bolts are REALLY TIGHT - that's when a 12 point socket (that catches only the edges of the bolts/nits) can easily round them off, while a 6 point socket (that catches the whole side of the fastener) can remove them without damage.
80 ft-lb isn't that tight (you can probably get them that tight with a ratchet handle if you're strong, or easily with a torque wrench about 24" long). But it's the spec, it won't help warp the brake rotors or damage your wheels, and you can get them off when you have a flat tire....
CHECK YOUR MANUAL OR THE DOOR STICKER FOR WHEEL TORQUE SPECS FOR YOUR PARTICULAR VEHICLE.
