I have this problem too. I too did a search and found the discussions of broken wires but couldn't find any on my car. Where did you look for the wires? In the bundle that runs from the body of the car to the trunk lid? I had the hardest time getting that rubber tube off to look. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. I figured the switch in the lock mechanism is broken. That part alone is about $150. To make a long story short I got one of those LED "Tap-lite" kind of things.
