I don't use any exact procedure. I just do it in whatever configuration pushing the remote buttons until the car respond.

And so far, I have only had one remote (all-in-one key) where the remote has gone bad and not worked at all and it didn't go bad with replacing the batteries, it was dead before and I just tried with new batteries and that didn't work and neither did reprogramming.
