If the problem is intermittent I don't know of a way to check it. When mine went bad (100,000 miles)I was experiencing the longer crank time at startup. Then one day it just died altogether. It is fairly easy to replace. The hardest part is getting the plastic locking ring off. I ended up buying a Bosch at Advance Auto Parts with a lifetime warranty for $100. They also could have ordered the Walbro for me. I believe it was around $115. There are also numerous places online where you can order the Walbro. Good Luck!
