I have an 03 Aero with 57K miles on it. The car is in great shape and I take good care of it. There are two problems with it that are driving me crazy and perhaps someone else has solved them.

1. The parking sensor will give out an uninterrupted, long beep in reverse even if there’s nothing behind the car. Oddly, it started doing this last summer after a 300-mile drive. In recent weeks it seemed to have self-healed, then I did 700 miles this weekend and it’s doing the long beep again with nothing behind the car.

2. For several years this car has had a rattling, groaning symphony of noises in the back end. The struts moan over speed bumps. I replaced the struts but it doesn’t help. I’ve lubed the sway bar links. There are rattles, squeaks and groans. It really reduces my enjoyment of the car and lately it has me thinking I should just get rid of it. My wife’s low-end 04 Focus has a much quieter and tighter-feeling suspension. Oddly, this also seems to be worse after a long drive when the trunk is empty.

Any ideas?
