Herb- I've been looking at these on the tirerack web site recently. I see one Michelin named 'Pilot Exalto A/S'. I imagine this is the same tire you are referring to as the Exalto PE2. In the general reviews for all makes, many praise the tire but others say the handling is like riding on marshmallows. However, when you filter the reviews to only include Saab then they are quite positive. I was originally looking at Avon Tech M550 A/S but a friend of mine said they have become quite a bit noisy after a few thousand miles.
I have a 2003 9-3 Arc 6 speed (I visit 9-3 and 9-5 forums) with only 16,000 miles and the original P6 tires. I have had them rotated every 5,000 but after the last rotation at a little over 15,000 miles I noticed the tires on the front are now making the typical cupped tire sounds at highway speeds. The cupping must be subtle since it is not very obvious when visually inspecting the tires. Many other people report that the useful life of the OEM P6 is 15,000 miles or so. There might be plenty of tread left but you won't want to listen to them on the highway.
